Frequently Asked Questions

Most swim caps reduce how much hair gets wet, but water still creeps in around the ears and hairline on longer swims. Our fabric caps for babies and toddlers aren't a dry hair solution. They shield the head from sun and help hold in body heat instead.

It keeps loose hair out of a swimmer's face and out of the pool filtration system, which some pools require for hygiene reasons. Older kids and adults also get less drag and better hair protection from chlorine. For babies and toddlers, it's more about sun protection, warmth and keeping hair out of the eyes.

Tying hair back or wearing a headband doesn't meet the hygiene rules some pools set. A sun hat works well poolside before your baby is in the water. Once they're swimming though, a soft fabric cap is more practical: it stays on and dries fast.

Silicone and latex caps with a tight, sealed fit come closest, and some add a satin lining to protect hair from moisture and friction. These suit teens and adults with longer hair. Baby and toddler caps aim for something different: a soft, breathable fit that's kind to delicate skin.

Babies can wear a soft fabric cap as soon as they start regular pool visits, often from a few months old. It should fit snugly but not tightly, since a baby's skin is more sensitive than an older child's. Stick with a lightweight, stretchy material rather than rigid silicone, which suits older children and adults better.
